Rhodes Town sightseeing
Rhodes town is situated 14 km away from the airport. Rhodes today has become a modern city with many things to discover.
Rhodes old Town-Medieval Town
The town has seven gates. The most important monument of the town is the Palace of the Great Magister (Castello).
Plateia Symis (Symi’s square), contains ruins of the Temple of Venus. At Symi’s square you will also find the Municipal Art Gallery. A little further on there is the Museum of Decorative Arts.
The Archaeological Museum of Rhodes is housed in the Medieval Building of the Hospital of Knights.
The most beautiful part of the old town is called “Street of the Knights”. It’s medieval grandeur, has been preserved and survived throughout the centuries.
At the end of the “Street of the Knights” you will find the stately “Palace of the Great Magister”, which dominates the entire old town.
South of the Palace of the Great Magister you will reach the Mosque of Suleiman and the public baths. At the Orpheus street you will find the famous Clock Tower which from the top gives you a view of the Old city.
New Town Rhodes
The small port of Mandraki used to be the naval port of the ancient town of Rhodes. According to the ancient sources, the huge statue of Colossus was standing there. Another attraction is the New Market (Nea Agora) opposite Mandraki Harbor.
Some of the most impressive sightseeing are the Aquarium, situated in the northern edge of the island, the New Market, the buildings of the National Bank of Greece, the Court, the Port’s Authority, the Post Office, the Town Hall, the National Theatre, and The Hotel of the Roses, the eldest hotel of the island (today as Casino).
